Office Secret Sauce

Always respect the man with a beard. Michael keeps the wheels on the DH-mobile as it speeds – sometimes careens – down the road. Managing the team’s heavy workflow is a beast, but Michael fights it daily as he deftly answers every computer question, tracks down schedules, fixes the furnace and sees to the administration of the firm.

What is your secret to keeping our office on track?

My job is often just trying to anticipate upcoming roadblocks or bottlenecks. Another huge part is understanding everyone’s communication styles. Some people need a longer one-on-one explanation to move forward with a project or task, and some people want the quick, three-bullet list. Learning people’s strengths and working styles is key to keeping everything moving. And humor helps. Everyone is really busy in the press of business, but sometimes it goes a long way to stop and laugh at a 30-second video or stupid meme. The cool thing about my job is that I get to talk to or work with everyone almost every day, so I try and make people laugh (if I can).

What drew you to DH?

I got my undergrad in communication and advertising with a minor in psychology. For a while, I took a shot at being a real estate agent and decided I wanted to come back to what I had studied and join a firm. I knew that DH had a great reputation and a cohesive atmosphere that produced great work. I set up a networking meeting with Andrei and the rest is recent history.

Which living person do you most admire?

My dad. He grew up on a farm, got married, had kids, worked and put himself through night school at the same time. He never complains and he doesn’t do anything that isn’t his best. Hard to beat that.
