What was your favorite subject in school?
I favored anything that was art or music related. But I also secretly liked math. Now that I think about it, design is a little bit like combining art and math. A designer gets to create beautiful things and at the same time solve problems. It is the best of both worlds.
What keeps you busy when you’re not in the office?
Various forms of exercise and adventure. I like road and mountain biking, running, swimming, CrossFit, softball. I also like making art—paintings, drawings, prints, murals. I also teach drawing classes at Gonzaga and group exercise classes at YMCA.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
To slow down. When I stop trying to go so fast all the time, I see so much more. I enjoy so much more. I understand so much more about where I am going and why.
