Emily has project management in her blood. She naturally frames what she has to say in key message points – be it an analysis of media coverage or a review of last night’s Bachelorette. Her combo of strategic thinking and detail-oriented execution is what makes her so effective.

What made you decide on a career in marketing and communications?

Please don’t laugh … but it was Sex in the City. I certainly don’t consider myself like Samantha (well, of course, other than her total kick-a$$ confidence and PR prowess), but I thought her world of promotion and marketing seemed so glamorous. I was hooked.

What has surprised you about working at DH that you didn’t anticipate?

How much the team would feel like my family. There are good working environments and then there are great working environments. DH is a great working environment. I feel so fortunate to call each of my colleagues a friend. I love coming to work and being able to collaborate with my cube mates on a project, while at the same time catching up on the most recent episode of The Bachelor or fall fashion trends or what they did over the weekend. It’s pretty cool!

If you could have a conversation with your younger self just starting at DH, what advice would you give?

Don’t think you have to be perfect. It’s easy to think that you should know everything and be the best within your first week, but it’s just not realistic. You have to set real, achievable goals for yourself and work toward them.
