DH is thrilled to accept the 2019 Spokane Internship Guide Business Award from our friends at Spokane Workforce Council.

The Spokane Internship Guide, created by Spokane Workforce Council (SWC) in February 2019, is a toolkit for businesses regarding the processes of developing and managing internship programs. The toolkit provides tools to help navigate communicating with interns, tracking time and projects and receiving feedback.

This toolkit was created because Spokane Workforce Council saw a need for opportunities for younger community members seeking employment. “Over the years, we have heard direct feedback from employers about the desire to start internship programs and the difficulty in getting them started,” said Victor Rapez-Betty, Marketing Generalist with Career Path Services. “In response, the SWC created the Internship Guide to make starting a program as streamlined as possible for the employer. We recognize that it is a commitment for an employer to start a quality program and we wanted to celebrate businesses that are doing so.”

In order to be eligible, DH had to offer a 2019 summer internship and use the Spokane Internship Guide. Our interns, along with interns across Spokane working at organizations who utilize the guide, took a survey to “nominate” their business for the award.

Spokane Workforce Council shares DH’s understanding around the importance internships play in our community and within our organization.

“An internship can be a transformative experience and set the intern on a fresh career path,” said Victor. “The value is immediate and long term. Often, companies hire their interns once the internship is completed or they assist the intern to find other employment experience. Internships are valuable to both the employer and intern.”

DH’s internship program aims to provide interns with hands-on industry experience and education to help prepare them for a successful career in the communications field. A huge thank you to our amazing 2019 interns – Ruben, Victoria, Nila and Roman – for working with us this year. We couldn’t do what we do without you and are glad you are a part of our team!
