A Conversation with Danajo Cole
Director of Marketing
MEET DANAJO COLE, OUR NEW DIRECTOR OF FINANCE. Danajo, who joined DH in the summer of 2017, isn’t your run-of-the-mill number cruncher. She’s a Controller who’s owned an advertising firm and been CFO of an international manufacturer. Here’s a bit more about her story in her own words.
Tell us about yourself.
For over 20 years I’ve either been a Controller, Director of Finance, or CFO in all sorts of industries such as aerospace, manufacturing, retail, services, for small and large companies. I was born in Seattle, but love living in the Spokane area. My parents are originally from here so we used to visit when I was a child. I own a place in Hauser, ID now and love the peace and quiet.
What brought you to DH?
I just spent several years working for an international company and I was looking to return to a smaller team environment with a great work-life balance. I also missed the advertising business. I used to own an advertising agency in Seattle and I missed all the great energy. DH seemed like a great chance to work with a talented group of fun people in this industry again.
You owned an ad firm? Cool!
With my two brothers, yes. One is a graphic designer/artist and the other a print production specialist. We started with just the three of us but eventually sold the firm after growing it to 22 employees. It was a lot of work but fun to be around so much creativity.
What are you excited about in your new role here at DH?
I enjoy getting to wear several hats in this position, both from an agency finance and HR standpoint. DH is growing in big ways with the new services it’s brought in-house in the last few years like media buying and more specialized creative services, so I’m excited to help expand the way we build those offerings into our financial systems.
What occupies your time when you’re not crunching numbers?
I love spending time with friends and family and enjoying the beautiful outdoors. I’m in a Ladies Golf League that plays once a week when the weather permits, and I have an energetic border collie who joins us for hikes, camping and bike trips on a regular basis.
What is the biggest hike you’re ready to take on in the near future?
My boyfriend wants to take on The Pacific Crest Trail. I will not be joining him for the full thing, but I will take on chunks of it before retiring to the closest bar along the extremely long trail.
